Hope everyone is having fun digging out and enjoying the snow :)!  Don’t forget to check on your neighbors.  Due to the school cancellations and the upcoming storms over the next week, we have decided to cancel this month's Booster meeting and communicate through cyber minutes. If you have any questions or comments regarding the information below, please do not hesitate to contact Cyndee Cannon or Jennifer Bargerstock.  PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO A & B AS THEY ARE TIME SENTSITIVE ITEMS.

A)    BUDGET UPDATE:  Attached to the minutes is Jennifer’s full document of proposals for how to respond to the Budget Crisis, titled SOS (Save our Student Athletes).  Listed below here are some of the highlights, but please read her entire document.

The School Board has recommended passing the Budget with the following Amendments:

Omnibus motion:
I move to adopt the FY 2011 Advertised Budget, as detailed in the agenda item, and with the following revisions: 1) restore funding of $17.1 million to eliminate the class size increase of one student per teacher for all classes except special education; 2) restore funding of $1.4 million for assistant principal positions; 3) restore funding of $0.8 million for instructional assistant positions; 4) restore funding of $1.6 million for instructional coaches positions; and 5) recognize additional central office support to schools reductions of $0.9 million; and increase the transfer request by $20.0 million, for a total request of $77.8 million.

Invite a Your School Board Representative to McLean?

Cyndee and Jennifer were thinking of inviting someone from the School Board and/or Board of Supervisors to McLean to talk about the budget concerns. Would there be interest in attending? Let Jennifer know at jenb@jenbsells.com and we will move forward if there is enough interest, maybe inviting Langley, Marshall and TJ to join us.

Updates Available:  There are frequent updates on the website www.FairfaxCountyWideBoosters.info

If you LOVE Webstuff – let Jennifer know. I could use help keeping both sites updated! Jenb@Jenbsells.com

B)  If your team is interested in participating in McLean Day you must contact Jennifer by COB on Tuesday, February 9th,  in order to reserve your sport.  We already have spots registered from Baseball, Girl’s Soccer, and General Boosters Apparel.  The purpose of the activity is partly as a fundraiser, but also to raise the profile of McLean Sports.

C) "Boosters" has been added as an option on email alerts (www.mcleanactivities.org, email alert tab).  Please convey that message to your teams and ask them to sign up.  We cannot use the alerts for budget communications, but with upcoming events, such as McLean Day and Varsity Sports Banquet, it is a great way to communicate with all of our booster members.

D) If you are interested in purchasing a brick for the Scotty walkway (football entrance), the baseball bleacher pad or softball walkway, please send in your order by Feb. 19th. Bricks will be installed this spring. These are great coach’s gifts, Graduation gifts, etc.  This information has been posted on Pipenotes as well.  Forms available at   www.mcleanactivies.org, under the booster & file tabs.

E) We still need volunteers for next year’s Membership, Snack Bar, and Apparel committees. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer or Cyndee.  Remember you are just asked to participate and not necessarily chair these committees.  It is a great way to get involved and meet other booster members.

F) Varsity Sports Banquet committee met last week. Our number one priority is finding a speaker. If you have any suggestions or contacts please let Cyndee or Jennifer know.
The committee discussed using Evite this year rather than sending out invitations. We will use Pay4schoolstuffonline as a credit card payment option. We are considering a "Taste of McLean" (with a variety of local restaurants) for the meal portion of the evening.
Sub-committees have been formed and things are moving right along. Thank you everyone who volunteered to help with this year’s event.

G) We had planned to contract with "Jack the Ripper" to have some trees removed by the Softball field.  Unfortunately, the County does not want us to use an outside source. Tom Herman is meeting with the County Arborist and we are trying to figure out an alternative.
However, regardless of who does the work, we still have to pay for it.  We hope to still be able to use Jack the Ripper, since his quote is probably much lower than anything the County would provide.

Next meeting, Monday March 1, 7:00 pm in the Cafeteria
